Design

The custom design journey allows you to be intimately involved in the creation.

Beginning with the basic concept of your vision, its appearance as a basic sketch or image of something similar and approximate dimensions. Brendon collaborates with you to help determine whether it requires storage, for example, and how will it need to be constructed to meet the requirements of you and your home.

Materials

Next, you want to carefully consider the kinds of colours, textures and wood you have in mind for your new custom furniture. Brendon has a wide range of timbers available that he can recommend, many of which he’s milled and dried himself.

If you desire rare timbers such as slab Kauri or Rimu, Brendan can source these or perhaps you have your own milled slabs? Brendon will be happy to work with these too. As well as using timber Brendon also creates furniture using a mixture of other mediums including steel and glass.

Finishes

With the materials chosen, you need to select the correct finish for your application.

Brendon has various colours to suit your decor from whitewash to forest green. Not to mention the spectrum of coloured and non-coloured oils to really emphasise the natural look of the wood.

The correct finish for the application will help ensure the longevity and desired aged look. Here Brendon’s 40-years of furniture making and restoration experience will guide you to a truly unique aesthetic pertinent to your requirements.

Brendon can then provide you with an accurate quotation. Once accepted and deposit paid Brendon will let you know an approximate delivery date.

Construction

Your guarantee of first-class furniture starts with Brendon selecting the most exquisite slabs to match your design. Utilising traditional hand tools and power equipment to ensure a fabulous finish.

Where possible, Brendon recommends visiting his workshop during the fabrication process. Seeing custom made furniture come together, and experiencing the workmanship that goes into its creation, is part of the joy, and an experience that is unique to commissioning bespoke furniture.

It forms part of the history of the piece and is something that you can share with your friends and family. If this is not possible, Brendon is happy to send digital images of works in progress.
